FLOWERS WHILE I'M HERE CONCERT / by Colt Walker

February 5th, 2022 was a night of spectacular performances by BabySantana, Xhuloo, Sid Shyne, Slump6s, Metro Marrs, Only Bino, YellaBandanna and a surprise performance by Yung Bans. Manni Supreme from Status Entertainment, DJ Rocket, and DJ Santiago Purp hosted the underground hip-hop show at the venue Center Stage also know as The Loft in Atlanta, Georgia. Unfortunately due to some travel miss-communications SSG Kobe, who was the main headliner was unable to make the show. Despite the upcoming artist not making it, the other youngin’s took it into their hands to give the crowd exactly what they wanted.

BabySantana being 14 years old is not only a talented recording artist, but wise beyond his years. Him and Slump6s closed out the show and performed their hit single Antisocial which has over 100 million streams throughout all platforms. When the crowd started chanting to perform the song they knew exactly what they had to do…go crazy! As soon as the beat came on it had the crowd in an uproar, better known as a mosh pit. The song progressed as one fan ended up on stage and dove off hitting the floor with direct impact, springing back up immediately with even more excitement than before he got on stage. With the potential of injuries that can happen at a show with such high energy, this is what fans expect from the artist they support who make music with the high energy style of lyrics and beat production.

These artist are at the forefront of the new wave in rap sound which is known for using “plugg” beats, a unique type of ambient beat production that was revolutionized by MexikoDro. Those “rage” beats were famously used on Playboi Carti's Whole Lotta Red album that features bass-heavy electronic melodies under 808s with modern trap drums. Trippie Redd, Travis Scott, and Kid Cudi have been using these type of beats for awhile now but this younger generation is taking it to the next level of creativity.
